Meet the Principal
Mrs. Judith Slutzky

Mount Prospect School opened in September 1999. This year we have over seven hundred and twenty students as well as ninety staff members. Since we are a growing community, we are constantly registering new students. Our class sizes range from twenty to twenty-four for kindergarten and first grade, twenty-one to twenty-four for second and third grade, and twenty-two to twenty-four in the fourth and fifth grades.

In our first year students were involved in writing our school song, picking our school colors (navy blue and white), and choosing the panther as our mascot. One of our monthly events is a Friday school-wide assembly where different classes or staff members offer a short presentation. We also recognize students, teachers, parents and community members who have achieved the "DUDE" award. The "Doer of Unusual Deeds of Excellence" award is part of our character education program, and recipients have demonstrated an extra measure of character through their actions.

Mount Prospect School has a very active parent volunteer program in which trained volunteers work in the classrooms to assist teachers. Some parents work with students during writing workshop and math explorations, design bulletin boards and assist in the library. Parents are also involved in the PTO and have planned activities and special events throughout the year. Recently a committee raised funds to purchase additional playground equipment for the school.

In September 2001, we were honored when New Jersey Monthly magazine chose us as one of thirty-one great elementary schools in the state. Our staff works diligently to make sure every child is challenged and respected as an individual. A child’s feeling of self worth is very important and we provide many opportunities throughout the day to reinforce this.

This is my thirtieth year in education, and I am having as much fun as I had when I started as a fourth grade teacher. Our students, parents and staff enhance Mount Prospect School’s unique character. We are fortunate to live in a diverse community where we constantly share our talents with one another.

Meet the Vice Principal
Ms. Joanne Hozeny

We begin our ninth year with a great deal of excitement!  Mount Prospect Elementary School is a school of excellence in the Bernards Township community. Our school’s mission statement expresses our belief that we educate all students and expect excellence.  We have high expectations for every one of our 770 children who walk in the doors of Mount Prospect each day.

Our greatest priority is the learning process for the children. We see them beginning the journey as leaders and contributors to a larger community. The partnerships they engage in at home and at school drive the interactions at Mount Prospect School. It is only through the efforts of many, that we can successfully provide positive experiences for all of our children. As we grow in this partnership, we join hands and unite our efforts and energies in preparing independent learners.

Mount Prospect’s staff is committed to providing a strong educational experience for our students.  Curriculum, which is aligned with the New Jersey State Core Content Curriculum Standards, is delivered in a variety of ways to meet the learning styles and needs of all of our students.  Beginning in Kindergarten, you will find teaching and learning activities that are designed to foster literacy, promote understanding of mathematics, learn about the world we live, develop a love of science and integrate technology into the learning process.  All students are given opportunities to extend their learning by using critical thinking skills and problem solving strategies. We believe that all students will be successful.

It is our desire to work in partnership with the community of Bernards Township to provide the best learning environment for our students. I'd like to invite all parents, guardians, grandparents and community members to become involved at Mount Prospect in some way this year. Volunteers are always welcome in classrooms, and through out the school to support student learning.

I truly am delighted to return to Mount Prospect as Assistant Principal this year.  I look forward to working with all members of our school community to support and enhance the mission and vision of our school and district.
