Course Selection
Students will make course selections in the Spring. Several sources of assistance will exist to help students make their selections including: Course sequences which can be found in the RHS program of studies; Teacher recommendations; Parental guidance; and Guidance Counselor advice. Courses should be selected in accordance with immediate and long-range goals and student interests and aptitudes, with the objective of epitomizing the high school experience. The selection of courses is a "contract" between the student, parents, and the school which cannot be altered without the consent of the school. The school will construct student schedules. The school reserves the right to cancel any course.
Honors Criteria: Grade 9
Students may enroll in an honors Mathematics course if they meet the following criteria:
1) A final average of "A" or better in Algebra I to enroll in Honors Geometry
AND
2) At the end of the year, students must also score “Proficient” or “Advanced Proficient” on the End of Course Algebra exam
3) 8th grade Geometry students need a final average of B or better to enroll in Honors Algebra II.
Students may enroll in an honors course for all other subjects if they meet the following criteria:
1) A final average grade of “A-” or better in the currently enrolled course.
Please note that students must score an "A-" or better in both Literary Connections and Communication Arts to enroll in Honors English.
CRITERIA FOR APPEAL:
The decision to grant the appeal will be based on the following criteria:
Standardized Test Scores
Overall academic performance
Performance demonstrated by mid-term and final exams
Teacher consultation
Student’s attendance/discipline record
Student writing portfolios
Honors/AP Criteria: Grades 10-12
Enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement Courses for students entering grades 10, 11, and 12 will be dependent upon student performance.
Students who are enrolled in an honors course may enroll in a subsequent honors course in Mathematics if they:
1) EARN a final grade of “B” or better in the current honors course.
2) EARN a final grade of “A” or better in the current college prep course.
Students who are enrolled in an honors course may enroll in a subsequent honors course in all other subjects if they:
1) EARN a final grade of “B-” or better in the current honors course.
2) EARN a final grade of “A-” or better in the current college prep course.
CRITERIA FOR APPEAL
If a student misses the eligibility grade requirement due to extenuating circumstances, that student can file an honors appeal.
Students who have not performed at the required levels described above for enrollment in the honors or AP courses may appeal to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for admission. Applications should be submitted to the student’s guidance counselor. The decision to grant the appeal will be based on the following criteria:

Students will be notified in writing of the appeal decision and will be able to access the schedule on Home Access Center.
